Summer/Autumn 2009 Registration
and Student Health Insurance Information
Students who schedule for Summer 2009 and Autumn 2009 will do so for the first time in the new Student Information System (SIS), starting (for those with the earliest scheduling priority) on April 27, 2009. This page will familiarize you with updated terminology and procedures you will encounter as you begin to navigate in the system. Detailed information about the history and implementation of the SIS Project is available online, but the information you need to prepare for registration can be found below.
Your enrollment appointment (formerly called a “registration window”) will be available to view in the Student Center via Buckeye Link starting April 20, 2009. E-mail reminders will be sent to students on April 20, 2009 with the link to the login page.
What’s New With Registration?
1. WAIT LISTS – You will no longer receive an early wait list enrollment appointment for courses you were wait listed for during the previous term (formerly called a “quarter”). However, you can now add yourself to the wait list for the specific section(s) of the course you want.2. COURSE PERMISSIONS – Course permissions can no longer be posted prior to the opening of your enrollment appointment. You will need to take your completed permission form to your advisor once your enrollment appointment has begun. If your permission waives a course requisite (formerly called a “prerequisite”) and the class is full, you will not be able to enter the class via the wait list.
3. REGISTERING BY CAREER – In the new system, all students are in a “career,” which designates your academic relationship with the university. Possible careers include Undergraduate, Graduate, Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. Each university course is tied to a career. This means, in general, you will not be able to register for courses tied to a career other than the one you are in, unless you have permission to do so. Students enrolled in multiple careers will receive an enrollment appointment for each career.
Steps To Registration:
1. CHOOSE YOUR CLASSES: Go to the Class Search page, formerly called the "Master Schedule." Be sure to select Summer 2009 or Autumn 2009 as the term, and consult the online class search help document if you need assistance.2. SELECT ALTERNATE CLASSES: Have several alternate classes already picked before you register - just in case your first choice is not available.
3. ADVISING: If you need to see an advisor or faculty member for counseling before you register for classes, you should do so prior to your enrollment appointment.
4. PERMISSIONS: Once your enrollment appointment begins, take your permission form to your advisor so the course permission can be added.
5. REQUISITES: Make sure you meet all the requisite requirements for your class selections before you register.
6. HOLDS: Some holds will block registration. Make sure to clear any holds at least two business days prior to registration.
7. REGISTER FOR CLASSES: Once your enrollment appointment opens, go to Buckeye Link and select “Add a Class” under the “Enrollment and Academic History” heading.
2009-2010 Annual Health Insurance Selection/Waiver:
The annual insurance selection/waiver period for all students will be open from April 27-September 15, 2009 (April 20-August 9, 2009 for Law students). During this time, confirm your choice to either select the default Comprehensive OSU Student Health Insurance plan or waive it if you have other comparable coverage. To make your selection, go to Buckeye Link and click “Student Health Insurance”.Adding or dropping courses may impact your insured status, so it is important to view the statement of account each time course information is altered. Students who drop below the minimum credit hours required to be eligible for the OSU Student Health Insurance Plans will lose coverage for the term. Students may request coverage for one off-term per plan year for any reason, and may qualify for up to two consecutive off-terms for an approved medical withdrawal. More information is available at http://shi.osu.edu or by contacting the Student Health Insurance staff at shi_info@osu.edu or (614) 688-7979.
For Summer 2009:
Students who were covered by the OSU Comprehensive Student Health Insurance for Spring 2009 and are not taking the minimum number of credit hours (including students who have just graduated), may be eligible for Off-Term coverage. To select Off-Term coverage, go to Buckeye Link and select Student Health Insurance and then select Off-Term.
