Explanation of Fees


 

Instructional Fee:  The Instructional Fee is used to fund instructional costs at the University. Students who are registered for classes at more than one campus of The Ohio State University during any single quarter will have their fees assessed based on the campus carrying the majority of their instructional credit hours.  For more information, please go to the Guidelines for Multi-Campus Students page.

General Fee:  The General Fee is mandated by the State of Ohio for the funding of non-instructional student services. At The Ohio State University, general fees provide those student services whose primary purpose is to contribute to the students emotional and physical well being, as well as their cultural and social development outside the context of the formal instructional program. Included in this category are: Counseling and Consultation Services, Student Health Services, Recreational and Intramural Sports, the Student Unions, Disability Services and the Multicultural Center. 

Student Activity Fee:  All students at the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University are assessed a Student Activity Fee each quarter to support programs that benefit all students. The fee supports free on-campus entertainment, cultural and arts events, student organizations and clubs, and discounted tickets to sports, arts and cultural events in the Columbus community and throughout Ohio. http://ohiounion.osu.edu/activityfee

Note: Student Activity Fee Increase effective Winter Quarter 2010. As you plan your finances, please consider the $10 Student Activity Fee increase. The student led increase was approved by the Board of Trustees to support free and discounted programs and opportunities on and around campus for all students. Student Union Facility Fee (beginning Spring Quarter 2010): All students at the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University will pay a facility fee with the opening of the new Ohio Union in Spring 2010. The student fee helps fund the Ohio Union facility, student organization and student meeting space, and cutting-edge venues that support student programming.

Technology Fee: Some majors are charged a Learning Technology Fee to pay certain technology related expenses within the major program. To see if a particular major has a fee go to Fee Tables .

Program Fee: Some programs charge a Program Fee to pay for certain program related expenses. To see if a particular major has a fee go to Fee Tables .

Orientation Fee: Beginning in the SP04 quarter transfer students and new students enrolling for the Winter, Spring and Summer terms will be assessed a one time fee of $25. New students enrolling in a Fall quarter will be assessed a one time fee of $50. Go to http://orientation.osu.edu/index.html for additional information on orientation.

Recreational Fee: All students taking 4 or more credit hours on the Columbus campus are assessed this fee, which provides support for all campus recreational sports facilities, programs and services. Students who are assessed the fee are automatic members of the recreational sports facilities and eligible for all member benefits. For more information go to www.recsports.osu.edu. For current fee rates, please go to Fee Tables. Exception applies to Post-Candidacy Doctoral students who are considered at a full-time status at 3 credit hours. Post-Candidacy Doctoral students will be assessed this fee beginning at that level of enrollment.

COTA:  The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) provides students with unlimited use of COTA services in exchange for a flat fee per term.  The fee of $9.00 per quarter ($13.50 for semesters) and applies only to Columbus campus.  For a copy of COTA guidelines, please go to the COTA fee page.

ATI (Wooster) Safety Fee: $12.00

Forfeiture Fees: You will be assessed forfeiture fees if you drop below full time or withdraw after the first Friday of the quarter. Forfeiture fees also apply to part-time students who drop classes or withdraw.

Other Miscellaneous Fees.

American Language Program Fee: $5,167.00

Instrument Rental Fee: Dentistry (Major=135) $984.00/qtr, Dental Hygiene (Major=132) $379.00/qtr

Law Transcript Fee: Rank 1 - $20.00 Assessed Autumn Semester only

Law Student Bar Association: Rank 1 - $45.00 Assessed Autumn Semester only

Med 1 Computer Equipment Fee: For the purchase of a laptop. Assessed $600 per quarter during first year.

Nursing Clinical Fee: $275 (this fee is assessed if a student is enrolled in Nursing 301.01, 301.02, 301.03, 402, 403, 404,493, 501, 503, H503, 508D, 509D, 510D, 511, 611, 622, 623, 631, 633.02, 634, 705, 715, 729, 733, 807, 808, 809, 833, 859, or 859D).

Nursing Liability Fee: $16.00/year Assessed Autumn Quarter only

AGR - $2.00 (All Campuses)
AHR, ENG, ENP - $1.00
NRE, Wooster - $2.00

Transcripts: $7.00 per copy
