Exam Scoring Special Requests
A "special request" is any submission that deviates from the standard scoring packet structure:
- a set of student answer sheets
- a completed Exam Scoring Request Form (pdf) which indicates the batch identifier letter (pdf)
- a scoring key (pdf), marked with the identifier letter, to score the student answer sheets
- a container for all these papers: a manila folder (preferred), envelope, or box (for large batches).
If you submit a non-standard request, please use the Special Requests field (pdf) of the Exam Scoring Request form to provide direction to the scanning staff.
Examples
| Irregularity | Remedy |
|---|---|
| Multiple batches are submitted with only one scoring key | Print batch identifier A on the scoring key, and put "use key A to score all batches" in the Special Request field. |
| More than one sorting option is chosen on the Exam Scoring Request Form for a single set of answer sheets | One pass through the scanner is required for each different sorting option. Complete a separate request form for each sort of each set of answer sheets. Example: You submit two sets of answer sheets, and would like each sorted three ways: alphabetically, by identification number, and by the order in which they passed through the scanner. This request comprises 6 batches, A - F. In the special requests field, put "use key A to score batches A, B, C. Use key D to score batches D, E, F." Place scoring key A and the request forms for batches A, B, and C in the same folder with the first set of answer sheets. Scoring key D and the request forms for batches D,E, and F go in a second folder with the other set of answer sheets. |
| Several different batches of answer sheets are placed in a single large container (usually a box) | Place colored sheets of paper, labeled A, B, C, etc., as divider sheets between the sets of forms to identify the batches. Label the scoring keys A, B, etc. to correspond to the forms. Complete an Exam Scoring Request Form for each batch, and submit the entire box of answer sheets with the request forms and scoring keys on the top of the box. |
| NCS answer sheets were used for a survey, so there is no scoring key. | Submit any scoring key you wish, as long as it matches the NUMBER of items used on the survey. Request the DAT file so you can import the raw data (pdf) that was scanned. |
| More than a couple of students (or survey respondents) printed or marked SSNs on their answer sheets (or survey forms) | Forms with student SSNs cannot be accepted for scanning. Email testing@esue.ohio-state.edu or phone 688-8323 for guidance. |
